"Leonard E. "Gene" Lyle, Born in Madisonville, Tennessee to Cora Davis and David Lyle July 2nd 1924. Youngest of nine children.

Graduated Barberton High 1942, Heidelberg College 1950, B.A., University of Wisconsin, Madison 1954, M.A. Served in the Marines in World War II, surviving invasions of Guam and Okinawa as a radio man, and as a guard at the U.S. Embassy in Peking. Taught in Amherst Exempted Village Schools 34 years, serving as Dean of Boys, assistant principal, tennis, football, and basketball coach, founder and advisor of the International Club, as well as classroom teacher of psychology, history, and government. Married 60 years to beloved wife Doris (nee Vermilion), father of Bruce, Sue Lyle Simpson (Mike), Beth Lyle Brown (Jim), Melissa Lyle (David), and Sam Lyle-Medwid (Scott). AFS daughters Mari Viherto of Finland (Tero), and Ronit Argaman of Israel (Ronen). Grandfather of 9 and great-grandfather of 2. Mentor to a large family of AFS students of whom he was very proud.

A memorial open house will be held on Saturday July 2nd, 2011 at 773 Park Ave. Amherst, from 1-5 pm. Bring memories on a half sheet of paper. Memorial donations can be made to AFS (American Field Service) USA or the charity of your choice.
