"AMHERST - Vincent B. 'Vince' Strauss, age 86 and a life resident of Amherst, died Saturday, April 16, 2011 at Anchor Lodge Retirement Village, after a short illness.

Vince was born January 11, 1925 in Amherst to the late Bernhard R. and Charlotte (nee Nabakowski) Strauss. He was a 1942 graduate of Central School. Vince served in the U.S. Navy during World War II as was a Torpedoman Mate 2nd Class.

After returning from the war, Vince married Gladys L. Stang on April 12, 1947. This past Tuesday, they celebrated their 64th wedding anniversary. For many years Vince worked at American Standard, Elyria, in the printing department. He followed with several years at Mullinax Ford, Amherst, employed in the maintenance department. In later years, he was a transporter for Liberty Ford. In his mid 70s, he retired.

Vince was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church, Amherst.
In retirement he loved to quilt and enjoyed attending his grandchildren's sporting events.

He is survived by his wife Gladys L. (nee Stang) Strauss; three sons; Mark Strauss of Amherst, the Honorable Mayor Kim (Marie) Strauss of LaGrange, Jay (Gwyn) Strauss of Amherst; five grandchildren; Pam, Jon, Amanda, Nicole and Ashley Strauss; two great grandchildren; and his brother Dan (Jane) Strauss of Amherst.

Family will receive friends Monday, 4 - 8 p.m. at the Garland-Misencik Funeral Home, 851 Park Ave., Amherst, where the funeral service will be Tuesday, 11 a.m. with Rev. Terrance Adamson, pastor of St. Paul Lutheran Church, officiating.

Burial will follow in Ridge Hill Memorial Park, Amherst Township. Military rites will be conducted by the Amherst Veterans Military Honor Guard.

Memorials may be made to the Activity Fund of Anchor Lodge Retirement Village, 3756 West Erie Ave., Lorain, Ohio 44053.

The family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks for the loving care given to Vince, their husband, father and grandfather, by Vince's daughter-in-law Gwyn, and the entire staff of Anchor Lodge.
