Centennial - Linda Monson has plenty of reasons to say "Why Me", and yet she never did not once . In eight years time she faced two breast cancer battles I addition, her mother, who had suvived breast cancer, was diagnosed with lung cancer and her sister had fougtht multiplmyeloma and amyloiosis.

All could have served as a reason to feel anger and bitter. Monson never found time or those feelings. Instead, she held her family close, remained active in her church, traveled, played tennis, made arts and crafts and volunteered wherever and whenever.

When Monson was going through chemotherapy after her second breast cancer diagnosis, she realized she might not be strong enough to travel to downtown Denver for the Race for the Cure. Instead, she asked a few of her neighbors if they wanted to help her support Komen for the Cure by walking through their Willow Creek neighborhood. Monson and her husband Paul expected about 20 to 30 people to join their walk. They were astonished to see 250 neighbors join them.

Every year, the Willow Creek Race for the Cure has grown in size. In October 2010, more than 400 people joined the walk. By that time, Monson had learned her cancer had spread to her brain, kidney, lung, pancreas and bones. Still, she remained optimistic and encouraging to others. She was always talking about the need to find a cure for all types of cancer and raise awareness about her life threatening diseases.

Monson often referred to Oprah Windfrey as her guardian angel, because she remembered watching her TV show hearing about the importance of breast self exam. Monson did an exam that day and discovered a lump in her breast. Monson's cancer was triple negative; a difficult type of cancer to treat.

When Monson died this week, pink balloons appeared around her neighborhood. A Facebook page encorage friends to remember her life with a pink balloon. Soon they started to appear acrss the country and worldwide in at least 11 countries on five continents.

Monson is survived by her husband Paul and their children: Abby, 21, Hannah, 17, and David, 14. Monson was 49 years old.
