About	Virginia H. nee Stevens Cherry 2 Apr 1922-7 Oct 2010 Amherst High School Class of 1940 "AMHERST - Virginia H. Cherry (nee Stevens), age 88 and a resident of Amherst, died Thursday, October 7, 2010 at New Life Hospice of St. Joseph, Lorain, after a brief illness. Virginia was born in Elmore, April 2, 1922 to the late Roy S. and Hattie (nee Waldenga) Stevens. She was a 1940 graduate of Amherst High School. Following high school Virginia worked at the former Thew Shovel, Lorain, and U.S. Automatic, Amherst. In 1944 Virginia married her husband of 65 years, Donald L. Cherry, who preceded her in death on December 26, 2009. When they married Donald was serving in the U.S. Navy and was stationed in San Diego, California. They resided there during the war, and moved back to Amherst when World War II ended. Virginia was a homemaker who enjoyed reading and gardening. Virginia was a member of St. Peter United Church of Christ, Amherst. For fifty years she was a member of the Order of Eastern Stars, Stone City Chapter, Amherst. In the past Virginia was active in the Ladies Auxiliary of American Legion Post 118, Amherst. Survivors include two daughters, Susan L. Cherry of Amherst and Denise (husband Randall) Beachler of LaGrange, Kentucky; two grandchildren, Katherine and Michael Beachler, both of Kentucky; and two great grandchildren, Kaleb and Kaylee. Virginia was preceded in death by her brother Robert L. Stevens (1967). Family will receive friends Monday, 2-4 & 6-8 p.m. at the Garland-Misencik Funeral Home, 851 Park Avenue, Amherst. Rev. Mark Pemberton, pastor of St. Peter United Church of Christ, will officiate the funeral service 11 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home followed by burial in Ridge Hill Memorial Park, Amherst Township.
