"EATON TWP.– Thomas L. Morain, 69 years of age, and a resident of Eaton Twp., passed away Tuesday, September 21, 2010 at his home following a valiant battle with cancer.
He was born September 1, 1941 in Lorain, Ohio. Tom was raised in Amherst and graduated from Marion L. Steele High School in the class of 1960. He had made his home in Eaton Twp. for the last twenty-two years after raising his family in Youngstown for 23 years.
Tom was previously employed as a plant manager at L.B. Foster in Niles, Ohio for 23 years. He subsequently was employed for 16 years as an estimator at R.E. Rice in Amherst and recently retired after 6 years with Kokosing Material Incorporated in Columbia Station. Tom was an active member of First Congregational United Church of Christ in Elyria where he served as a Deacon. He was a member of the Senior Fellowship in Elyria. His greatest joy was spending time with his wife, his children, and grandchildren. Tom enjoyed woodworking, golf, antiquing and fishing. Tom took great pride in his long career and was known for his strong work ethic.
Tom leaves to cherish his memory his high school sweetheart, who was his wife of forty-seven years, Lynne Morain (nee: Nabakowski); his son and his wife Clark and Christine Morain of Harrison City, Pennsylvania; his daughter and her husband Rachel and James Lindell of Coronado, California; his grandchildren Lauren and Jake Morain and Derek and Troy Lindell; his brother and his wife Earl "Topper" and Barbara Morain of Amherst and his cousin and his wife Robert and Barbara Morain of Ft. Myers, Florida.
He was preceded in death by his parents Earl and Mary Grace Morain (nee: McCracken), his father and mother-in-law Jack and Jane Nabakowski, and his son-in-law Brad O'Neill.
Friends may call Thursday, September 23, 2010 from 6 - 9 p.m. at the Hempel Funeral Home; 373 Cleveland Ave., Amherst. Funeral services will be held Friday, September 24, 2010 at 1:00 p.m. from First Congregational United Church of Christ; 330 Second Street, Elyria. The Rev. Christina G. Kukuk, pastor, will officiate. Burial will be in Brownhelm Cemetery, Brownhelm Township.
