Amherst High School Class of 1931
(must mean the old Central School?)

"Ruth Alice Kane (nee Zilch) passed into her Lords’ hands at 9:00 on Monday evening, July 26, 2010 in Summerville, SC., where, due to declining health, she had moved to be near her remaining daughter.

Born in Brownhelm, January 26, 1913, she was the 4th child of Werner and Emelia (Schibley) Zilch, and resided in Amherst for over 80 years.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 66 years, M. Earle Kane (04/2000) and their 1st daughter, Susan (Stumpp) in May 1991.

She is survived by their 2nd daughter, Cathy (Mrs. Ted Englehardt), 5 grandchildren, Jeffery (Patti)Stumpp, Bryan (Alice) Sedivec, Robin (Christopher) Dawson, Jared (Mary) Stumpp, & Hallie (Mark) Dohanyos. Ruth also was so proud of her 5 greatgrandchildren, Emily and Katie Stumpp, Jarrod and Evan Dawson, & Lindsey Stumpp. Four nieces and two nephews also share in the loss.

Ruth graduated from Amherst HS in 1931, where she excelled in Oratory and theater, to name but a few.

She attended Ohio Weslyan College & Oberlin College with majors in French and Music prior to her marriage to Earl in 1935, but graduated from Baldwin-Wallace College in 1961 in Elementary Education. She taught 5th grade in the Amherst Public Schools for 17 years, and loved every minute! She shared with her students her love of poetry, the classics, Shakespeare, history and all the richness of good literature.

Ruth also shared her many talents in her almost 60 years of active membership in St. Peters’ UCC, Amherst — Choir, Circle 6, Altar Guild, Prayer Group and myriad others in the earlier years. It was her social and spiritual hub, and she was an lifelong student of the Bible.

She also enjoyed her social contacts through her Bridge Club & Study Club, as well as the years she and Earl spent traveling here and abroad after retirement.

Following a private, noontime interment at Brownhelm Cemetery, the family invites all who knew and loved Ruth to share in a “Celebration of Life” service to be held at St. Peters UCC, 485 Church St., Amherst, OH, at 1:30 p.m., Wednesday August 4, 2010.

In lieu of flowers the family suggests that memorial contributions be made to St. Peter United Church of Christ; 485 Church Street, Amherst, OH 44001.
