About	Walter H Podlich, age 62 b. 25 Oct 1947 - d. 30 Dec 2009 MLS Class of 1967 Per the obituary: "AMHERST â€” Walter H. Podlich, 62 years of age, formerly of Amherst, and a resident of Henrietta Township, passed away Wednesday, December 30, 2009 at Community Health Partners in Lorain following a long-term illness. He was born October 25, 1947, in Amherst, graduating from Marion L. Steele High School in the class of 1967. He has been a lifetime resident of the Amherst area. Walter served with the United States Army during the Vietnam Conflict in the st Cavalry Division as a tank driver and was a recipient of the Purple Heart. He was employed with the Nordson Corp. in Amherst for seventeen years, retiring in 1987 as a tool and die maker and truck driver. He was an active member of the American Legion Post #118, the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1662 and the Amherst Veterans Military Honor Guard. His hobbies included gardening, hunting, and working on projects using his John Deere tractors. Survivors include his wife of three years Robalee Marshall Podlich (nee: Sickle); his daughter Amber Ortiz and her husband Thurman of Apopka, Florida; his stepson Ricky Marshall and his wife Amanda of Amherst; his stepdaughter Robalee Marshall of Apopka, Florida; seven grandchildren and one on the way; his brothers and their wives Richard M. and Helen Podlich of Amherst and Clayton A. and Gay Podlich of Elyria; and his sisters Fran Chapin of Texas and Mary A. Nichols and her husband Larry of Lorain. He was preceded in death by his son Paul Wayne Podlich on October 15, 1993; by his parents Harry Milton and Myrtlemay L. Podlich (nee: Hill); his brother Gilbert Leroy Podlich; and his father-in-law Robert L. Sickle. Friends may call Sunday, January 3, 2010 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at the Hempel Funeral Home; 373 Cleveland Ave., Amherst. Funeral services will be held Monday, January 4, 2010, at 1:30 p.m. from the funeral home. The Rev. Paul D. Eaton, pastor of St. Johnâ€™s United Church of Christ in South Amherst, will officiate. Honors will be presented by the Amherst Veterans Military Honor Guard. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery, South Amherst.
