Stephen Hengst, class of 1959, starred in basketball and tennis in the first two years of Mac Arthur athletics. At 6'4" he was an imposing figure on the basketball court. In tennis he placed fifth in the state in doubles in both 1958 and 1959. He went on to Millikin University and was an outstanding athlete in both sports there as well. Mr. Hengst earned the bachelor's degree in physical education (class of 1963) and a master's degree in education, both from Millikin University. He had a 30-year career with the Decatur Public Schools at Lakeview HIgh School, Mound Middle School, Stephen Decatur High School, and Eisenhower High School - where he served as Principal from 1985 to 1990. He is a member of the national Association of Secondary School Principals, was named 1981 Administrator of the Year by the Decatur Association of Educational Office Personnel, and was inducted into the Decatur Athletic Council Hall of Fame in 2000.

You probably should contact Mr. Hengst to make sure all of this is correct, and so on.
