Elrico Hurley

Class of 1996

After graduating from Loy Norrix High School in Kalamazoo, MI in 1996, Elrico Hurley knew his mission was to positively influence his community. Over the next twelve years, Elrico has taken his community, state and country by storm engaging it in dialogue and action for its forgotten citizens. Elrico is a highly sought-after expert in youth issues and leadership development, training more than 5,000 individuals on various issues, opportunities, and/or skills. A strong advocate for his community, Elrico champions the causes of those who are under-served and under-represented. His passion for youth and civil rights has led to his involvement with various non-profits, specializing in public policy advocacy, strategic planning, public relations/communication strategies, board development, and civic-engagement. His involvements have included the NAACP, Boy Scouts of America, Junior Achievement, Kalamazoo Youth Development Network, and his church Christian Life Center.

In 2002, the electorate of the Kalamazoo Public Schools District elected him to serve as a member of the Board of Trustees. In 2003, Hurley was elected as the President-Elect for the Michigan State Caucus of Black School Board Members. Through these roles, he effectively advocates for the financial, educational, political, and social needs of his constituency at the local, state, and national levels. A 2001 inductee to the International Who’s Who of Business Professionals, Elrico has received many awards and accolades. Former Michigan Governor John Engler authored a special tribute to Elrico for his dedication to the youth of Michigan. He has received similar tributes by Former Lt. Governor Dick Posthumous.
