About Roger passed from a sudden heart attack only 4 months after retirement and moving back to Paducah. He was a process engineer with a company out of Houston and traveled to design oil refineries all over the world. He lived in Calgary, Canada several years as the boss of a team that designed refineries for the large oil fields in that area. He moved to Houston with the parent company and retired after finishing work with Saudi Arabia and going to Dubai several times. He was so happy to move back to Paducah. He never wavered as a Kentucky Wildcats fan and lived in Wildcat sweatshirts when away from work. He was a civil war reanactor for many years and quite the Scholar on civil war history. He had every record album he ever bought, including first edition Beatles, and through Social Media, he'd become close friends with a member of Lynard Skynard. His extensive knowledge of music thrilled the band member and they enjoyed long conversations on the music scene. At his memorial service, we played Skynard's "Simple Man." Roger was preceded in death, unfortunately, only 19 days before his own passing by our mother, Betty Jean Smith, who also died of a sudden heart attack. His younger sister, Luanne Smith, is the only surviving member of the immediate family, and is retired and living in Florida. Roger is greatly missed.
