Technical Sergeant John M. Lane is a Services Craftsmen assigned to the Fitness and Sports Center as Fitness and Sports Operations Manager, Davis-Monthan Air Force Base, Arizona. He is 37 years old. Sergeant Lane was born in Sioux Falls, South Dakota on 16 April, 1970. He attended Lincoln Senior High School, graduating in June of 1988. He was an active member in the community working with the local youth sports programs coaching baseball. He also volunteered time at the local food shelter where he provided over 300 meals annually for the community. After graduating from high school, Sergeant Lane was locally employed with Pam Oil Company where he worked as a shift supervisor. He subsequently enlisted in the Air Force in 1988 and arrived at Lackland AFB, Texas, in September, 1988. Upon graduation, he attended Technical Training at Lowry, AFB, Colorado. After graduation for Technical School he was assigned to 842nd Services Squadron in Grand Forks, North Dakota where he was a missile site chef. In 1993 Sergeant Lane was assigned to the 15 Services Squadron where he were held the positions of Intramural Director and Fitness Director of the Hickam Fitness and Sports Center. Since arriving at Davis-Monthan, AFB he has served in a variety of positions, including NCOIC Intramural Sports and his current position. Sergeant Lane is an active member of Santa Rita Little League and served has coach/manager and was selected to coach the 9 and 10 year old All-Star team this past year. His military awards include the Accommodation award with an oak leaf clover and the Outstanding unit award. He attended Kaplan Community College, and is working toward a Bacelor’s Degree in Business Management.

I enlisted in the Army in 1972 and, after training, worked as a Clinical Specialist on the CCU/ICU at Ft. Ord, CA. After discharge I came back to SD and enrolled at SDSU. I also joined the National Guard. When I graduated I was accepted to Navy OCS in Newport, RI. Upon commissioning I reported to USS Schofield (FFG-3) as Missile Officer. I next served on USS Tarawa (LHA-1) as Executive Department Head. I next worked at Assault Craft Unit 1 in Coronado, CA. Following that tour, I reported to USS New Jersey (BB-62) as First Lieutenant (Deck Officer). After attended Department Head School in Newport, I served onboard USS Racine (LST 1191) as First Lieutenant and Chief Engineer. My last duty station was Commanding Officer of the Naval Reserve Center in Sioux Falls.

Ft. Riley, Ks; Ft. Richardson, Ak; Ft. Greely, Ak; Military Joint Services Graduate School Lackland AFB, Ms; Armor and Engineer Board, Ft. Knox, Ky. Left active duty in 1987 to Reserves. Relocated to Minnesota.
