About Keisha Smith-Franklin Fort Drum, N.Y. - Keisha LaShea Smith-Franklin, 27, died of heart failure Nov. 22, 2006. She was born February 8, 1979, in Kansas City, Kansas, to Rev. Arthur H. Smith Jr. and Janice M. Smith. She married Spencer Franklin on November 18, 2006, in Wichita, Kansas. He survives. At the age of 4, she moved to Liberal, Kansas, with her parents. She graduated from Liberal High School in 1996. She received a Bachelor's Degree in Mass Communication from Jackson State University in 2000. She received the Howard L. Lett Memorial Service Award from Jackson State University's Mass Communications Department in 2000. She worked at RDV Sports for the NBA and WNBA teams, the Orlando Miracle and the Orlando Magic in the Media Relations Department in 2001. She received her Master's Degree in Interpersonal Communications from the University of Central Florida in 2003. She worked at Walt Disney World Public Relations Department in 2003. She was employed at Jackson State University in the Public Relations Department in 2004. She was the Editor of the Mississippi Link in 2004. She was employed at the Southwest Daily Times and received the Kansas Press Association Award of Excellence in 2005. At the time of her demise, she was employed at Seward County Community College as an instructor. She was a member of the New Community Missionary Baptist Church in Liberal, Kansas, where she taught Adult Sunday School Class. The pastor was her father, the late Reverend A.H. Smith, Jr. She is survived by husband, Spencer Franklin, Fort Drum, N.Y.; mother, Janice M. Smith, Liberal, Kansas; her sister, Kayla L. Smith, Altamonte Springs, Fl; and a great host of family and friends. She was preceded in death by her father, Rev. Arthur H. Smith, Jr.; a grandfather, Franklin S. Myers; grandmother, Bertha M. Smith; and an uncle, Samuel Smith.
