About John M. Leithauser (78), affectionately known as Babbo and Papa, passed away peacefully on January 28th, surrounded by his family.

John was preceded in death by the love of his life, Sandy (Peterson) Leithauser. He is survived by his two daughters and sons-in-law, Adriane Leithauser and Brian Steverson of Spokane, WA; Shelley and Rob Rogers of Stanwood, WA; his grandchildren Autumn, Max, and Robert; and his great-granddaughter, Zyla.

John was a lifelong resident of Spokane and graduate of Lewis & Clark High School. He served his country as a surgical technician during the Vietnam War. John was a storyteller with a passion for history and politics. He was a lovable guy with a quirky sense of humor, a sparkle in his eye, and an infectious laugh, all of which will be greatly missed.

John was an enthusiastic Seattle Seahawks and Gonzaga Bulldogs fan, but his greatest passion was music. He was a long-standing member of the Inland Empire Blues Society and was often found volunteering with Sandy at local festivals. John enjoyed most blues, but his favorite songs contained a gritty harmonica riff. His family and friends are comforted to know that he and Sandy are finally dancing together again.

There will be a celebration of life at a later date (likely somewhere we can shoot pool and listen to the blues). In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to Hospice of Spokane in John and Sandy's name.
