About | Passed away at her home in Spokane, Washington, on Super Bowl Sunday. Born August 23, 1945, in Anchorage, Alaska, and moved to Spokane at an early age with her mother, father, and eight brothers and sisters. She is survived by her loving husband, Tim, and their children Timothy Mark (Brenda d.2008) and Melissa Ruth (Chris) Carpenter both of Spokane. She also leaves behind her grandchildren Carly (Joey), Ryan, Timothy, Brooke (Brandon), and Cate Jonquil. Grandma Joni was delighted to experience the joy of having three great-grandchildren Tae Lynn, Dawson, and Elliot Timothy. Joni met Tim, the love of her life, during their High School years, where they both worked at Sacred Heart Hospital's dietary department. They were married on May 2, 1964, to begin their journey of raising two children and loving life's experiences of work and play. She graduated from Lewis and Clark HS and soon thereafter enrolled at Spokane Community College to start her nursing career. She mostly worked at St. Luke's hospital pediatric department before leaving the nursing field to provide care for her first grandchild and working in the family mortgage business. Much of her leisure days were spent on the waters of Coeur d'Alene and the San Juan Islands in the family boat; always accompanied by her mini-poodles, Banjo, and Ricky. Joni fought hard for the last four years with medical issues that included four surgeries. She was a deeply faithful Christian and studied scripture and readings of Mother Mary; when able, she worshiped at Moran United Methodist Church where she was a member. The family honored her last wishes to stay home and have no formal memorial service. Her final resting place will be at Moran Cemetery. Published by Spokesman-Review on Feb. 15, 2023. |
