About William Roland "Bill" Lufkin May 31, 1944 - March 12, 2010 SALEM - Bill Lufkin, age 65, passed away Friday March 12, from liver cancer. Bill was born in Spokane, Wash. to Francis and Barbara Lufkin joining his brother Fred. He married Barbara "Bobbi" Johnston. Daughter Kim and son Craig soon joined the family. He later married Candace Ludtke and in their 36 years together they lived in Portland, Corvallis and Salem. Bill was all about love, loyalty, fun and working for the underdog and those who could not speak for themselves. After a teaching career of 25 years he retired from Monmouth Elementary School District in 2000. He continued to delight children and foster a love of learning with volunteer activities in the Salem-Keizer schools. Bill was a lifelong Democrat, teacher advocate and activist. Six grandchildren, Brittany, Bianca, Cristian, Jackson, Morgan and Austin and nephew, Ezra, and niece, Joanna, have lost their best friend. Bill is greatly missed and cherished by his family and friends as a loving, and at times, slightly goofy guy who touched us all with his charm, playfulness, generosity and desire to leave the world a better place for all of us to share. A Memorial Service will be at 2 p.m. on Saturday, March 20 at the Salem First Presbyterian Church, 770 Chemeketa St. NE. A short reception at the church will be followed by an open house at the family home. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Bill's name may be made to a food bank of choice.
