About Nancy Ann Beard, a longtime resident of Yakima, Washington, died Sunday, October 20, 2019 at the Issaquah Rehabilitation Center.
Born in Spokane, Washington on October 8, 1943 to mother Claudia Randall and father Rolden Canfield, Nancy had just celebrated her birthday with her daughter Rebecca Landrey and son Malcolm Beard and his family. Nancy is survived also by her 6 grandkids.
Nancy attended University of Washington, where she received her degree in 1966 and became a teacher. She taught English in Mercer Island for two years and then she and then husband moved to Yakima on July 11, 1969, where their children were born and raised.
Nancy taught high school at Carroll High School for many years and then took time off to raise her children. When she returned to teaching some years later, she taught at YVCC in the ABD/GED adult education program, while finishing her Master's degree. Once complete she taught for two years at Stanton Alternative High School and finished her career at Wilson Middle School teaching English. In her later years, Nancy volunteered with La Casa Hogar. Nancy was a passionate educator, never turning away from a challenge in education.
Nancy loved to play bridge, even though she always jokingly complained about never winning. She would regularly attend her various bridge groups. She also had a love of reading and regularly attended book club. She loved going to the Capitol Theatre for productions, Yakima's Farmer's Market, and taking trips to the lower valley wineries. Nancy's greatest joy was going to lunch and the movies with the amazing friends she made in Yakima, which sustained her through her fight with cancer. She was loved by many and will be missed by all. Her Celebration of Life will be announced in the near future by her family.
