On June 8, 2008 (Lois) Jean Irvin passed away at home surrounded by loving family members. Jean was born in Spokane, Wash. on Jan. 2, 1943. She spent her early years growing up in Potlatch, Idaho before her family moved to Spokane where she completed her primary and secondary education. She attended Gonzaga University in Spokane and after moving to San Marcos received a B.S. degree in Biology from Texas State University-San Marcos.Jean briefly taught biology at both Texas State and San Marcos High School. Jean was an avid gardener, animal lover and duplicate bridge player. She had a great love of animals and rescued many cats and dogs which became cared-for family pets. She was a unique person who made many friends in many places.Jean will be missed by her devoted husband Jim; her daughter Miriam Ripplinger and spouse Eric and her son David and his spouse Jennifer. She is also survived by four grandchildren Ellen, Daniel, Jessica and Samantha.A memorial celebration of Jean's life is scheduled at Pennington Funeral Home at 10:45 a.m. on Saturday, June 21. The family will be greeting friends and well wishers beginning at 10 a.m. before the memorial begins. Anyone wishing to remember Jean with a memorial gift may send a donation in memory of her to either the Canyon Lake Animal Shelter or the New Braunfels Humane Society, the source of two of her favorite pets.
