Served 4 years in a time when it was not considered the honorable thing to do, that is during the Vietnam years. i spent 2 tours in Vietnam then i had to spend 2 years in Texas. i felt safer in Vietnam then in Central Texas. I tryed to go back overseas anywhere but they would not let me go.

Wayne H. Johnson
Class of 1960
Coast Guard, 4 Years
Enlisted after graduating from LVHS. Boot camp was on a small island between Oakland and Alemeda Island, Calif. I still remember those 12 weeks as a serious life experience.
I was stationed aboard the USCGC Matagorda. We homeported in Honolulu but spent most of our time off the coast of Asia doing this and that. I even ran into an LVHS classmate ashore in Yokuska, Japan. I spent my final year ashore in Long Beach, CA. My final rank was SK3 (E-4). I am a member of the American Legion and Sojourners of the Masonic Order. It is interesting to be a veteran now compared to when I came home in the 60s.
