LaRita Cooper-Stokes

Class of 1976

Dear Family & Friends,

After prayerful consideration and family discussions I have decided to enter the political race for Hinds County Justice Court Judge, District 5. Being actively involved in civic and political issues since the eighties, I have sought to create effective change in Hinds County and the City of Jackson. I have worked with my Husband, Kenneth I Stokes; with the hope of giving the citizens of Jackson and Hinds County a choice. My family and I now feel that the time has come for me to offer myself as a servant in the public arena. I am hopeful that I can bring my 25 years of courtroom experience as an attorney and former Deputy Clerk to the people of Hinds County.

As you may know, I have also been actively involved in creating change in my
community. My commitment to public service and charitable work started early and continues today. I am a very active Member of New Hope Baptist Church, Jackson, MS. I also serve on the Advisory Committee at Jackson State University’s W.E.B. DuBois Honors College and I help inner city youth prepare for college. I am excited at the possibility of serving the people of this great county. But before I can serve I must conduct a very aggressive campaign. My strongest opponent is quite set in the political arena with lots of cash to throw around and a close relative currently serving in office. To be successful in this endeavor it will take a very strong and dedicated grass roots organization.

I believe the voters of this district will step forward with my family in a united volunteer effort. As you may have guessed my family is already hard at work designing flyers, building winning strategies of their own, and decorating the campaign headquarters. All of my children have volunteered to help knock on doors, place yard signs and of course, participate in any upcoming parades and events.

With thousands of brochures to purchase, hundreds of yard signs to order, scores of
radio ads to place, and the entire district to cover, I will need help. I am turning to the people who have known me the longest, who know me best, and humbly inviting you to get involved in my campaign and help make a difference.

Your contribution, made payable to “ LaRita Cooper Stokes For Judge” will give our race a tremendous boost. Your gift of $25, $50, $100, $250, $500 or $1,000 will help me raise the vital “early seed money” I need to successfully launch this campaign.

Our goal is to raise $3,500 by June 18, 2011, and I humbly ask for your support in helping us rise to this great challenge. Please mail your contribution to: Cooper-Stokes For Judge: Contact Ebony Cooper with any questions, ideas or suggestions
Thanks in advance for your encouragement, generous support, and prayers. Kenneth and I are both grateful for your friendship and wish you many blessings!

Sincerely yours,

LaRita Cooper-Stokes
