Class of 1969

My claim to fame at Lakes was to be the first flutist in the band for the three years I was there. Oh, and being the only girl in the Advanced Math Concepts class with Mr. Nelson.
With a Bachelor of Arts in Music from the University of Washington and a Masters of Music in Flute Performance and Pedagogy from Central Washington University, I have had many job experiences in music and interestingly enough in the computer industry. I have owned a music store in Seattle specializing in flutes, I have taught at North Seattle Community College and Central Washington University, I have worked in the Point of Sale Industry - which is what you call the computer cash registers you see when you buy something, and I have taught at the Woods House Conservatory of music in Wenatchee, Washington. But the last two years have been an exceptional experience. I have been teaching at the International School Yangon. I am a music teacher there and teach pre-school through 4th grade general music, 5th grade beginning band and 7th-8th grade choir. Yangon is the old capitol city of the country of Myanmar which used to be called Rangon, Burma. Get our your maps - I had to before I came.

In 2009 I commissioned a piece of music for flute, alto flute, piccolo, piano, violin and cello. I premiered it in June 2010. All you flutists get on-line and look up the website of Gwyenth Walker, American female composer out of Vermont, and see if it is published and available to the public yet.

I still remember fondly my teachers and classes at Lakes. I hope that you use your education to find a job and industry that holds your interest, lets you use your creativity and intuition and helps you make the life for yourself that you envision.
