Enlisted 1964. Commissioned 1968. Earned BA, MA, MAPA, and 2 ABDs while on active duty. Covered Vietnam War as information officer. Served in NATO and Strategic Air Command in closing days of Cold War. Assistant Professor in communication at Defense Information School and US Air Force Academy where he also served as chairman of Military Studies Dept. Editor/senior author for military textbook used by 15 nations. Senior advisor in public affairs to five four-star generals and admirals. NATO spokesman in Southern Europe. Public affairs manager for activation of US Space Command and US Strategic Command. Strategic planner for first Gulf War, first reduction of US nuclear weapons, and inactivation of Strategic Air Command, most powerful military force in nation's history.

I started my career as a Parachute Rigger for the 82nd ABN DIV. From there I became a Informations Systems Technician and have served at Fort Sill, Fort Meade, and Fort Leavenworth since that time, consecutively.

Served starting summer after graduation in 1977. After basic training in San Diego, spent about 3 months at the since closed helecopter base in Santa Anna, Ca waiting for training school. Went to school at 29 Palms, Ca to become an Assistant Weapons Controller. First duty station was MCAS Beaufort, SC. I was there for a year and a half. During that time, I went on joint service deployments to the White Sands, NM testing grounds (home of the trinity nuclear test site), and an international military exercise in Germany. From Beaufort, I spent a year in Okinawa, Japan. While there, I was deployed with my squadron for an international training exercise to the Philipines. My final duty station was MCAS Cherry Point, NC. During my 4 years of service, I earned the rank of Corporal (E-4), earned a Sea Service Deployment Ribbon, and a Good Conduct Medal. I qualified as an Expert rifle marksman, the highest qualification.
