Tana and family moved to Kennewick in 1966, then graduating in 1969. She married Gary Van Assen in 1978 and together they raised four daughters. She and her husband had successful careers in banking and relocated several times throughout Washington but were living in Spokane when Tana retired in 1991. She loved to travel, and this love took her to many destinations in the United States, Mexico and to the Cook Islands. Tana loved life, her grandchildren, hobbies, cooking, movies, reading and caring for her dogs. Tana died on May 22, 2021, in Spokane after a courageous battle with lung cancer.
