Alumni Stories
Randy Atlas
Class of 1978
I have fond memories of my Kenmore West years. One of them was the exchange trips we had with our band, which was led by Art Macdonald. One year we had an exchange with band members from Hampton, New Hampshire, and another year we exchanged with band members from Winnecunnet, Virginia. During the latter trip, we got to visit Washington, DC and I did a "silly walk" somewhere in Arlington National Cemetery. My friend Jamie and I drew and colored a huge caricature of "Mr. Mac" which we attached to the outside front of the bus. It stayed there for the entire trip. Mr. Mac had a good laugh about that one. The students from Virginia were from such a "hick" town that some of them took time to go "downtown", which was near Delaware Ave and Lincoln Blvd in Kenmore. Looking back on all of this, I think our band must have sounded awful but at the time we thought we were big shots.
I could go on and on about my memories there but don't have the time right now.
