Springfield Athletic Turf

Alumni of Jonathan Dayton High School;

As you may have heard, the Jonathan Dayton High School football team in Springfield has had a very successful season this year. They had 8 wins and only one loss and made it all the way to the NJ State High School playoffs. The football program was resurrected only four years ago at the school and the success this year is a tribute to the coaches and the young men in the program.

In addition; both boys and girls soccer teams at Dayton had successful seasons. The boys Varsity Soccer team won the State Championship in their group. Again, credit goes to the dedication of our athletes and coaches, not to mention a terrific youth soccer program in Springfield.

These young men and women have represented their school, their town, their families, and themselves with great class and distinction. But what has to be mentioned in any tribute to these teams is how we, as a town, have let these young people down by not having a suitable place for them to play. It is an unimaginable situation that we have high school teams in the state play offs and no field for them to play on. Currently, the Board of Education RENTS the field at Union High School for our home football games at an outrageous cost.

Earlier this year, a group of parents formed the Springfield Athletic Turf Foundation (SATF); a non-profit fund raising group whose sole purpose is to vastly improve the currently athletic field conditions in the community of Springfield. The goa
