Jarod J. Gatson
Class of 2000
National Guard, 9 Years
SSG Jarod J. Gatson is a commendable soldier that always goes above and beyond the call of duty!! Jarod has just recently returned from serving in Iraq for one year. He has also been deployed to Afghanistan, Korea, Germany, Kuwait, and Uzebekistan. His unwaivering pride and love for our country is one to be admired! Showing his selflessness by putting his life on the line for ours without a second thought is what makes him a true hero!!

Army, 8 Years
After 3 years in ROTC under SGM Matson, I joined the Army in 1976 before graduating.
Started as a transport operator (E-4) for HHC USACDEC at Ft. Ord, CA. Licensed on all tactical and commercial vehicles. Served as ass't instructor for the driver testing unit. (1977-1980)
Served as Admin and Supply Technician for the 233rd Combat Engineers, 33rd infantry brigade, Illinois National Guard - Joliet Armory (1980-1981).
Last tour I was Squad Leader and Ass't Platoon Sergeant where I was a test driver for the Humvee. (1981) I was Training NCO for Transportation Co, ESC at USACDEC, Ft. Hunter Liggett (1982-1983). My final assignment was as NCOIC for Driver Training at Ft. Ord (1984).
My daughter now is serving in the USCG.

Enlisted before graduating started boot camp a month after graduation. Went off to Great Lakes NTC. Stationed aboard the USS Gridley (DLG 21) 72-73. Aboard the USS Harold E. Holt (DE 1074 73-75. Two weeks before my Honorable Discharge, the Holt rescued the SS Mayaguez from Cambodian capture. Proud to have honorably served.

After serving 8 years on Active Duty in the Submarine Nuclear Power Field, I went on to an 18 year career in the Navy Reserves. I served in two Inshore Boat Units as well as several years in Submarine Support Units. I retired in 2007 as a Chief Petty Officer.
