I joined the Coast Guard Reserve to beat the
draft! I did have some active duty when Indians took over Alcatraz Island and turned off the beacon. I was on a Coast Guard tug boat that ferried U.S. Marshals to the island, and patrolled one sector.

I joined the Army Reserve in June 1975, at the 6253rd Combat Support Hospital in Novato and transfered to the 347th General Hosp. in Sunnyvale, both working in Medical Supply.
In 1983 graduated and recieved my commission in the Medical Service Corp from the California Military Academy, at San Luis Obispo, CA as a Lieutenant. Stationed at the 146th Combat Support Hosp in San Francisco, as a Communications officer and Adjutant. 352nd Evac Hospital, Oakland, as Patient admin officer. 217th Medical Battalion, Pueplo, CO, as training officer, and retired from the 89th Troop Command HQ, in Golden, CO. Jan. of 1999 as a major.
