Douglas Ray Kotlar died in Gig Harbor, Washington, at the age of 49. In his early teens, had been Junior National Waterski Champion for 3 years, and in high school, he took up surfing. He drove a red 1960 El Camino. He met his future wife, Karen Jenkins. He graduated from Cal Poly Pomona. Eventually, Doug and Karen moved to Gig Harbor, where Doug was a self-employed landscape architect on residential and commercial properties. He was instrumental in re-designing the aquarium at Pt. Defiance Zoo and taught landscape architecture at TCC. He had been a member of the Peninsula Park Board and a soccer coach for the Peninsula Soccer Club for 8 years. Cause of death: suicide.
