Class of 1960
Air Force, 20+ Years
1961 to 1965 Spent Feb through Oct in basic and military school on electronics and Missile systems. Oct to April at Dyess AFB as perminent party and back to school to become a BMAT on an ICBN launch crew in Plattsburgh NY. Discharged in 1965. Join the Vermont Air National guard in 1974. Worked in Disaster Preparedness then was moved to Services to train the cooks on wartime deployment. In 1991 I was deployed to Holloman AFB during Desert Storm. Worked at National Guard headquarters at Andrews AFB 1992, 1993, and 1994 on the Readiness Team which handled conversions and base closures.

Ronald Craig Halverson

Air Force, 20+ Years
Joined Idaho Army National Guard as Troop Clerk from 1970 to 1971 and then joined the US Air Force. Began career in the 1st Combat Evaluation Group as an Autotrack Radar Repairman training and evaluating B-52, FB-111, and F-111 air crews in live and simulated bomb and electronic countermeasures bombing runs from 1972 to 1978. Was stationed in Hawthorne, NV, Ubon Thailand, and Wilder, ID. Served as radar maintenance technician and operations supervisor and crew chief. In 1978 selected by the Air Force Technical Applications Center to cross train into a Scientific Laboratory Technician monitoring the Nuclear Test Ban Treaty and Non-proliferation Treaty. Stationed at McClellan Central Laboratory in Sacramento, CA from 1978 to 1991. Served in the thermal mass spectrometer section, laboratory radiation and safety under the Laboratory Director, and as supervisor-manager for the Gas Analysis Laboratory. Participated in Vietnam and Desert Storm wars. Retired and moved to Boise, ID to work as Program Manager for the state of Idaho, Idaho National Laboratory Oversight Program monitoring nuclear activities within Idaho.

Tom Mahan
Class of 1960
Air Force, 20+ Years
Tom graduated in 1964 from the USAF Academy, CO, and was commissioned a Second Lieutenant in the United States Air Force. Over the next two years he completed pilot training at Reese Air Force Base in west Texas, and finished his initial training combat crew training at Luke AFB, AZ.
Over his 24-year career he spent ten years in the European and Pacific/Southeast Asia regions and accumulated 4500 hours flying the T-37, T-38, T-39, F-100D, F-104C/D/G, F-4E, F-15C/D, A-7D and the F-117A. His assignments included two Viet Nam combat tours – F-104C and F-4E, three other operational fighter assignments, three stints as a fighter instructor pilot, and an exchange tour as the first American pilot flying fighters with the German Air Force. He completed a tour in Germany on the headquarters staff of the United States Air Forces in Europe (USAFE), and served three years on the Air Staff working force structures and budgets in the Pentagon. From 1982 – 1984 he commanded a squadron of air superiority F-15Cs in Europe. From 1984 to 1986, as Assistant and then Deputy Commander for Operations, Col Mahan helped evolve the combat capabilities of the F-117 stealth fighter. In 1989 this Nighthawk unit won the Collier Trophy, and in 1991 it neutralized the Iraqi air defense system.
His military decorations include the Legion of Merit, Distinguished Flying Cross and 13 Air Medals. He completed his military career in June 1988 as a Colonel and Vice Commander of the 35th Tactical Training Wing at George Air Force Base in California.
From 1988 through 2000 Tom was an engineering manager in the Lockheed Martin Skunk Works -- the Palmdale, CA unit of Lockheed Martin Aeronautics Company. He managed an analysis developmental program and coordinated multi-spectral technology development initiatives to improve the survivability of existing and future aircraft.
From mid-2000 until 12/31/10 Tom represented the advanced survivability technology interests of Pratt & Whitney and the United Technologies Corporation with the major weapon system contractors. His focus was on aircraft survivability and system-level improvements.
He retired in 2011 to support his family and two non-profit associations.
In addition to his professional military education, Tom earned a Bachelors Degree in Engineering Science from the USAF Academy and a Masters of Business Administration from the University of Utah.
He has been married to the same great woman since 1965. Shirley and he have two grown children and three grandkids.
