Earned Ph.D in journalism from Ohio University in 2005, following a nearly 25-year career as a newspaper journalist and editor throughout the west and midwest, and currently am director of the School of Communication at Point Park University in Pittsburgh, PA. Have published four books, three of them academic, and written op-ed commentary for newspapers that include The New York Times, Denver Post, Pittsburgh Post-Gazette and Philadelphia Inquirer. Married, with three grown children. My latest book, published in September of 2013, is a memoir of the Vietnam war era, of the youth and freak culture of the anti-war movement days, of the drug and free-love culture of the time -- with the downside of a violent assault carried out against a woman by a friend of mine. It is a true story and an interesting look at the era and the attitudes toward woman at that time. It is available on Amazon. Its title is "In Cheesman Park," because it is set in the Cheesman Park neighborhood of East Denver.
