When we learned of his diagnosis, Jacque’s sister and brother-in-law Shannon and Donald Petering came and got him and took him fishing. They took this photo of him that day. There isn’t a thank you in the world to give Donald and Shannon for this precious gift they gave him of that day of fishing.

My brother Warren was larger than life in every way. He was a great husband to Jacque (Carruth) Thomas, a great father to his three children, a wonderful grandfather to his 5 grandchildren. Russ and I are going to have to up our game seriously to care for our mother as well as Warren did.

He got the cancer diagnosis on October 3. As big and strong as he was, we just couldn’t imagine anything could take him out at all, let alone so quickly. He died about 8:45 a. m. CST, Saturday, October 23, 2023. His wife Jacque and our sister Anna were in the room with him, and all of his family close by.

We had his memorial service Wednesday, December 27 at Clear Branch Methodist Church at Trussville AL. It was a packed house. His coworkers, friends, and family went on and on telling stories about him. There were lots of laughs and lots of tears.

We still can’t believe he’s dead. It’s going to take a long time to figure out how to get by without him.
