So why didn't I do better in history at JHS?

I guess the short answer is that I wasn't terribly interested in the subject when we were in school. The interest has grown, especially since I retired from the Jamestown Fire Department and moved to Florida. Our daughter's family still lives in Jamestown, so we spend some time there every summer. Part of my summer trip is spent in the library of the Fenton History Center, where I've been gathering photos and information about local topics.

I was a little dismayed that there wasn't much information about Celoron Park, which I remembered visiting as a child. That's when I set about finding out more about the park, and was surprised to learn what a "big deal" the park was, long before I ever attended. That interest led me to write a book, called "Celoron Park on Chautauqua Lake". The book is currently in its third (and final) printing, and can be found at several Jamestown locations, as well as through Amazo

Interested parties are welcome to email me for further details.

I'm working on the research for a couple of other topics of local interest, but that's in the early stages.

Another MAJOR project in which I'm involved is the cataloging of all of the seniors of JHS. The database is approaching 40,000 now, and will eventually include senior photos for everyone who graduated from JHS. I've already shared the files with Jamestown Public Schools and with The Fenton, but it's still a work in progress. I have yet to enter data from 1977, 2005, and 2011, but most years from 1901 - 2010 are entered. If you're part of a class reunion committee, I'd love to hear from you!

The retirement from JFD didn't "take", and I've been employed by Pasco County Schools since 1995. I keep telling myself I really need to retire, so I will have more time available for this!
