From the newspaper: Shulla, Kim E.
MADISON - Kim E. Shulla, age 48, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on Wednesday, May 19, 2004, from a ruptured brain aneurysm. Kim was born on Aug. 24, 1955, to Peter and Rella (Leute) Shulla. Kim attended Queen of Peace Elementary school, Madison Memorial High School, University of California San Diego and Edgewood College. Kim was artistic and had an appreciation for various forms of artistic expression. She thus went on to work for the Monroe Street Flower Shop and then became employed by the Century House Gift Shop for 16 years. Kim then moved on to her first love, to work with and teach young children, becoming employed by the Madison School System working at Franklin Elementary for the past eight years to the present time. She found great joy working with young children. Their innocence and trusting was for her a form of substance. Kim was a gentle, caring and forever giving person constantly seeking to provide help to others. Kim's close friendship with her grandmother was a profound part of her life, daily caring for her needs and improving her value of life. Her deep faith in God and her values were lived out through her giving spirit. Kim made those of us, brothers, sisters and parents, so very proud of her. We will miss Kim dearly; however we take comfort that someday we will be together again. She is survived by her parents; her maternal grandmother, Laurene E. Leute; brothers, Joseph Shulla of Madison, and Andrew (Lynn) Shulla of Middleton; sisters, Ivy (Robert) Jacus of Madison, Kathleen (Richard) Bruns of Middleton, and Diane (Larry) Cose of Chicago; and 13 nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her paternal grandparents, Joseph and Victoria Ciulla (Shulla); and her maternal grandfather, William J. Leute. Visitation will be held from 4 p.m. until 6 p.m. on Sunday, May 23, 2004, at ST. THOMAS AQUINAS CATHOLIC CHURCH, 602 Everglade Drive, Madison. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, May 24, 2004, at ST. THOMAS AQUINAS CATHOLIC CHURCH. In lieu of flowers any donations may be made to Perspectives Charter School, 1915 S. Federal, Chicago, IL 60616, serving the needs of inner-city children, which Kim's sister, Diane, co-founded with Kim's inspiration and encouragement.
