Graduation Year Class of 1975
Date of Passing May 07, 2024
About Gregory "Greg" Curtis passed away on May 7, 2024 surrounded by loved ones. Born in Norfolk, VA, he was the son of the late Thomas and Frances Curtis.
Greg was a graduate of Indian River High School and Virginia Wesleyan College.
Greg was competitive in life and excelled in every sport he played. His first love was baseball (and later softball) followed by golf. He was quick to challenge anyone to a game of hoops, pool, bowling, corn hole or ping pong. You name it, he was up for it. Greg found great joy in helping and teaching others, and was always someone quick to lend a hand.
Greg devoted his professional life to the airline industry, spending a combined 40+ years helping to improve companies such as Piedmont Airlines, USAirways and AirTran Airways (and their softball teams!). Notably, Greg played a key role in the improvement of airline safety guidelines and processes for AirTran Airways after the devastating effects of 9/11.
Left to cherish Greg's memory are his loving wife, Nancy Holton Curtis, son Justin (Nicole), granddaughter Avery, sister Carol Curtis of Virginia Beach, brothers Bryan (Karen) of Las Vegas, Mike (Sheila) of Chesapeake and many loving extended family members and friends.
A memorial service will take place at H.D. Oliver Funeral Apts, Chesapeake Chapel, 1416 Cedar Rd, Chesapeake, VA 23322 on Saturday May 11, 2024 at 3:00PM with a visitation & celebration to take place, 2PM – 3 PM, and a reception will follow the service at the chapel. "Because this is a celebration of life we encourage everyone to dress casual but respectful and to wear colorful and bright colors, just like Greg's personality". In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Greg's name to the Alzheimer's Association
