About Me | In 1973 I moved to Miami, Fl and enrolled in a mortuary science college. I became a licensed funeral director and embalmer in 1977 which is a four year program. I earned an associate in Arts degree and Associates in Science in Mortuary Science. In 1981 I received my bachelor’s degree in business administration. I have taken two MBA courses. My partner and I ran a funeral home in North Miami Beach, Fl. He has since retired and lives in Ohio. In Tampa, Fl I took a three day course in handling mass fatalities. I was in the United States Naval Reserve for over 20 years. May of 2007 made 22 years of continuous service. I am now eligible to receive military retirement benefits at 60. During Desert Storm I was mobilized to active duty to process the war casualties and send them home to their families. I was mobilized one day before the ground war (rolling thunder) began. I served as an inspector, ensuring the soldiers were prepared to my professional standards. I worked at the Dover Delaware Air Force Base (Port Mortuary) a barbed wire fenced and gated compound within the air base. In 2001 when the planes hit the twin towers I was mobilized again. This time I was deployed with a small team of Cryptologic Technicians to Hawaii and forward deployed to Naples Italy. This was for Operation Just Cause and Noble Eagle. I was gone for two months. This is what the Navy trained me to do. What do we do? We intercept and process intelligence data and disseminate it to national commanders to use as they need. The Navy trained me to be a touch typist, in other words you don't look at the key board while typing. In school we typed for 8 hours a day for three months. I have traveled extensively with the military. I have been to: Hawaii (4 times), Naples Italy, London (2 times), Stuttgart Germany (2 times), Seoul South Korea (3 times) we had to be bused up into the mountains where we worked in an underground facility built in the mountain that looked like something out of a James Bond movie, San Diego (2 times) Washington, DC (4 times), the National Security Agency (2 times). As a tourist I have traveled to: Paris, Rome, Isle of Capri, Bath England, Salisbury England (I stood next to Stone Hendge), White Cliffs of Dover England, Bern Switzerland, San Francisco, Monterey, CA, Carmel by the Sea, CA, Colorado, New Orleans (before Hurricane Katrina), Savannah, Boston, Chicago, Key West, Bahamas, Bar Harbor Maine, Nova Scotia, Pan Mun Jam, South Korea which is by one of the North Korean infiltration tunnels. The Koreans had a large pot of simmering bugs, I ate a dixie cup of bugs for the first time at the DMZ. They were really quite tasty. Though you can't find any cats! When I turned 40 I had a mid-life crisis, I'm much better now, thanks. I felt I was almost dead. So became a PADI certified open water SCUBA diver. Then I attained my advanced open water certificate. I had to do a deep dive (110 feet) and two night dives. Now at the time I had a fear of being in the ocean and at night was even worse. Now I am petrified. Let me explain. On one of the night dives I was 60 feet under the water moving along side a sunken cargo ship. One of the panels on the side of the ship was not there. As I moved in front of the opening I looked inside and saw the largest fish face you can possibly imagine looking straight out at me! It was something right out of your worst nightmare. All I kept thinking was I hope he doesn't come out, because he could cut me in half. I floated up above the ship and looked down at him, he filled up the entire ships compartment. As part of my continued craziness I jumped out of a plane at 7500 feet, with an instructor of course. You can't jump by yourself until you’re certified. Actually I was tied to him. The free fall is incredible. You go from 0 to 125 miles an hour in a few seconds. After the chute is deployed it is very quiet. Two months after I jumped, the plane crashed with everyone aboard. I've done two (ten mile) runs to the beach and back. I became a certified life guard. I qualified on an M16 and 45. I arranged with a cryonic company to freeze my body when I die on the premise...(read more) |
