Graduation Year Class of 1998
Date of Passing Jun 24, 2003
About On June 24, almost exactly one month shy of his 23rd birthday, technical assistant Michael Lapprich died in a single-car accident in our long-term Nissan 350Z.

Mike was a multifaceted young man, and in addition to working for us, he had been the assistant hockey coach at Ann Arbor's Huron High School for the past five years. He recently received an associate's degree in automotive service technology from Washtenaw Community College and was planning to pursue a career in nursing.

We are certain Mike would have found success in this new field because he was an unusual young man who impressed the over-30 set as favorably as he did his peers.

Mike also defined the term self-starter and pursued his assigned projects with single-minded determination. He was the logistics boss responsible for assembling and moving the mass of equipment from our Michigan headquarters to the California Speedway for the tuner test in this issue, and everything we needed arrived ready for action at the appointed hour. Mike's picture appears in "Suspensions of Disbelief." He's the good-looking guy on the far left in the opening photo.

We are all devastated by this tragedy, and we dedicate this issue to Mike's memory. Rest in peace, Michael.
