Brett suffered a fatal heart failure on Oct 24, 2007. He was the editor of the Lake County Star Newspaper in Balwin MI. He attended Carpenter School, Slauson, and 10th grade at Huron High, before moving to Saline in 1969. He graduated from Saline HIgh in 1971.He also held two master's degrees from CMU (history and fisheries biology). He worked the Great Lakes on the ore boats for nearly 20 years before going back to school.
