| About Me | There comes a time when we all - ok, most of us - well maybe some of us - reminisce (I had to look up that spelling) about high school days at Horace Mann. When you were born in 1937 and you are still alive, I think that is good cause for celebration, in most cases. I'm laying down some thoughts now in case something might to change my life in the next 20 years. :( Personally at this time (June 6, 2019) I am in excellent health: no aches or pains, exercise, low-carb diet, no drugs to speak of, and a lot of food supplements. Oh....no kids! I no longer play trumpet but I have played drums, timpani, and percussion for many years. First job teaching was one year 4-7 grade band in Daytona Beach, then 4 years in a USAF band in Cocoa Beach, Florida at Patrick AFB (a vacation) and then Palm Beach State College in Lake Worth, Fl, retired but still associated with the school. I have played either trumpet or drums for years in many shows, bands, orchestras, etc. although that has died down a lot. No one wants to see an old guy in any band anymore. I don't either! In over 30 years of teaching I have many students with whom I am still in contact with and whom I love. And sadly, even a few whom I have outlived. Conducting and developing musicians and bands has really been fun for me and I think that is one secret to a longer life. Some things that I hate to see? 1. An empty lot where our school used to be 2. A great city that moved out! 3. A country that is no longer like we knew it. (That can change) 4. Fill in the blank!________________ I figured that since I have avoided facebook and other social media, I might as well put some thoughts down while I am still alive, even if no one ever reads this!
