About Rev. Gregory George Taylor, age 64, was called home to eternal rest on Tuesday, June 30, 2015. Gregory was born in Chicago, IL on August 10, 1950 to the late Rev. George Lee Taylor and Thelma Joyce Taylor. He was the oldest of three children. At age seven, he was called into the ministry at Christian Valley Missionary Baptist Church, Gary, IN.
As a student at Gary’s Alain L. Locke Elementary School and Horace Mann High School, Gregory was very active in the boy scouts, band, and wrestling. After graduating from high school in 1968, he then pursued degrees in biblical studies at Oakland City College, Oakland, IN followed by his studies of mortuary science at Worsham Mortuary School, Chicago IL. He also eventually served as a combat engineer and military police in the US Army.
Following in the footsteps of his father, Rev. George Taylor, Gregory began, in 1963, preaching and teaching at Zion City Missionary Baptist Church, Chicago, IL. In 1973, he married Lynette Mosley and from this union there were four children. He rendered service as his father’s assistant pastor for 22 years. Then in 1985, he was called to Pastor. For the next 30 years, Gregory was able to touch the lives of the many members at Zion City along with the residents in the surrounding Englewood community.
Gregory enjoyed drawing and taking daily walks. And, he loved movies, music, collecting, fishing, and doing charitable work. His favorite pastime was bowling.
