About | Dale Joseph Poe died peacefully surrounded by his family on May 24, 2017. Dale was born July 8, 1950 in Gary, Indiana to Mike Francis Poe and Grace Elois Stout Poe. As a young teenager in Gary, Dale and friends formed a band known as The Dynamic Keytones, playing primarily polka tunes. His band became locally famous when they won first place in a Gary talent competition in which another local group, The Jackson 5, came in second. After graduation from Horace Mann High School, Dale attended and received his Bachelor of Arts degree from Valparaiso University. At the close of his senior year, he was drafted into the United States Army and served proudly in personnel management in Seoul, South Korea. After discharge from the military, he moved to Wichita, Kansas and joined the Wichita Police Department where he served for over 30 years. While serving on the police force he earned his Master of Administration of Justice degree from Wichita State University. Dale served as an Officer, Master Police Officer, Detective, Lieutenant and retired in 2005 at the rank of Captain. He was a proud member of the Fraternal Order of Police Lodge #5, Wichita, where he was awarded a life membership. Dale retired to spend time with his children and enjoyed baseball in all venues. He was an avid Royals and Cubs fan. Dale also assumed the role of "watch commander" of his neighborhood from his favorite rocking chair on his front porch while listening to his favorite polka tunes. Dale is survived by his wife of 29 years, Beth Harlenske; daughter Barbara Jean Poe (Chris Hermesch) of Kansas City, Missouri; daughter Lindsay Dawn Poe Rousseau (Trevor Rousseau) of Wichita and step-granddaughter, Charly; son Michael Dale Poe of Wichita; brother David Poe of Las Vegas, Nevada and sister Alice Cooper of Merrillville, Indiana; and many cherished friends and extended family. |
