Irene K. Turpa, age 96 of Chesterton, passed away on Friday, February 17, 2017 at Avalon Springs in Valparaiso.
She was born on December 5, 1920 in Gary, IN to Peter and Persephone Souris, both of whom preceded her in death. On June 16, 1946, she married George Turpa, who preceded her in death in 2001. Irene is survived by her children: Father George Turpa of Toronto, Canada and Pete (Renee) Turpa of Valparaiso; her grandchildren: Elisabeth (Perry) Proskos of Pickering, Canada and John Turpa of Toronto, Canada; great grandchildren: Elessa, Ava, and Christo; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. She is also preceded in death by her siblings: Mary, Sophie, Steve, and Manuel.
Irene was a devout Orthodox Christian. She was also a 1938 Graduate of Horace Mann.
