Rosemary (nee Bailey) Johnston, age 95, of Alexandria, VA, formerly of Smyrna, GA, Hobart and Gary, passed away August 26, 2016.
She was a past parishioner of Holy Angels Cathedral, St. Mary's of the Lake and St. Francis Xavier. Rosemary was a graduate of Horace Mann (class of 1939) and Indiana University (B.S. 1943 Bloomington), where she pledged Alpha XI Delta Sorority. She served as a proud patriot in the advanced unit of the first WAAC's - ROTC unit on an American college campus during World War II. Rosemary began a ground breaking career at U.S. Steel as a "time studies man" that later developed to work in the metallurgic industry as an executive recruiter, retiring as head of her own firm. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and friend to all who knew her.
Rosemary was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas; parents, Mary (nee O'Leary) and William Bailey; brothers: Bill (Jean), Jim (Jane) and numerous Johnston in-laws. She is survived by her devoted children: Mary Anne of Tucson, AZ, Kathleen Marie and Patricia Maureen, both of Alexandria VA, Thomas Francis of Hobart, James Patrick of Largo, FL; cherished grandson, Sean Johnston and many beloved nieces and nephews.
