About	Madeline Cowgill (nee Scully), age 97, of Munster, IN, passed away on Thursday, July 14, 2016. Madeline was born in Gary, IN on May 9, 1919. She went to Holy Angels Elementary School and graduated in 1937 from Horace Mann High School, Gary, Indiana. She received her B.S. and M.S. degrees in Education from Indiana University at Bloomington in 1942 and 1949, respectively, where she was a member of Pi Beta Phi sorority. Madeline served in the American Red Cross during World War II at the Regional Hospital at Camp Lee, in Petersburg, VA. She taught at Froebel Elementary School in the late1930's and at Marquette Elementary School in Gary in the 1970's and 1980's, and retired after 20 years, and enjoyed knowing many friends and students there. Madeline lived in the Miller neighborhood of Gary for many years until relocating to Valparaiso in 1986, and to Hartsfield Village in Munster in 2009. She will be missed by her loving family. Madeline was preceded in death by her loving husband, Colin Charles Cowgill; brother, John Scully, and sister, Betty Martin. She is survived by her daughters: Carol Cowgill Kramer of Indianapolis, IN and Colette (Jim) Cowgill- Eligator of Chicago, IL; son, David (Gail) Cowgill of Munster, IN; and grandchildren: Paul Cowgill of San Francisco, CA and Eric Kramer of Indianapolis, IN; sister-in-law, Joan Scully; nieces: Adeline Lott, Marianne Kilkenney, Sharon Harig, Susan Scully; nephews: John Scully and Tom Scully, and her cousins: Shirley Lucas and Marjorie Lee. Madeline's family would like to thank her doctor and niece, Sharon Scully Harig MD -- for taking such good care of her and thank the assisted living staff of Hartsfield Village, where she has lived in comfort since the age of 90.
