About | Betty Christine Bader, aged 77 died peacefully on December 1, 2014, in Albuquerque, NM, after a long battle with Alzheimer’s. Betty was born on January 29, 1937 in Valparaiso, IN, the daughter of Mitro P. Pilipiak and Olga M. Pilipiak and was the first of two children. Betty was raised in both rural Wisconsin and NW Indiana, and during her childhood attended Horace Mann School middle school and graduated from Horace Mann High School. She graduated from Knox College, Galesburg, IL. She married, George J. Bader, on November 7, 1964, at Holy Angels Cathedral in Gary, IN, and the couple settled in NW Indiana. Betty was blessed with two children, Gallus John Bader (Mary) and Michael James Bader (Stefanie), and was the very proud grandmother of six grandsons: Gallus, Garrick, Grant, Gabriel, Dominic and Cameron. Following college, Betty worked as a confidential secretary at Taylor Forge and Pipe Works. She had a life-long career working for The Equitable Company, as an insurance broker. She was a member of the Gary Junior Assembly, enjoyed playing bridge and decorating. Betty had a keen eye for quality and loved sharing her knowledge in many areas. She had a love for antiques and was a collector of beautiful pieces including many family heirlooms. Betty also was a gourmet cook and loved cooking for her friends and family and created cookbooks with hundreds of family recipes for her sons and their families with many of her traditional Polish dishes taught to her by her mother. She loved to travel from a young age and enjoyed going to Arizona with her mother-in-law, Florence Bader every winter. She always looked forward to making international trips to visit her son, Gallus, and his wife Mary at their overseas posts. She was an incredible grandmother and had a deep love and affection for each grandson in a special way. She had a special way of making everyone feel important. Betty spent the last 16 months in Albuquerque, NM with her son, Gallus, and his family. Betty truly was the epitome of class, beauty, high-intellect, compassion and love. She always said to her loved ones, “Love you much, honey.” |
