About Jeanne D. Vale (born Ruth Jeanne Dickson), age 83, of Crown Point, formerly of Merrillville and Gary, went to be with our Lord on November 27, 2014.
She leaves to cherish her memories, children: Michael Vale (Laura Remington), Eric (Ruth) Vale, and Jeff (Marcy) Vale; and grandchildren: Allison, Remy, Bryan, Max, Daniel, Elisa, Miles, and Isaac Vale. She was preceded in death by her husband, Milo F. Vale, Jr. in 1998; and her parents: Ralph and Beulah Dickson.
She graduated from Horace Mann in Gary in 1949, attended Western College for women in Ohio and graduated from the University of Illinois in 1953 and was a member of Kappa Alpha Theta. Jeanne earned her Masters Degree in Education with a focus on Counseling from Purdue University Calumet in the late 1970's. Her specialty was family counseling and she also attended several seminars and courses related to that.
Jeanne was a loving daughter, wife, mother, and grandmother. She served on various committees at the First Presbyterian Church of Merrillville (formerly Independence Hill Presbyterian Church) serving as Director of Christian Education in the 1960's; First Presbyterian Church of Gary where she was ordained as an Elder in the 1970's; and served at First Presbyterian Church of Crown Point. In the 1970's, she was involved with Rap Line, a phone counseling service, which later grew into the Crisis Center of Gary where she continued to serve, and Planned Parenthood of Northwest Indiana. In the 1980's, she served as Assistant Director of Alternative House in Gary.
Jeanne volunteered for Meals on Wheels in the 2000's. She belonged to Junior Assembly of Gary and Pi Sigma Phi. She had an intuitive sense of style that brought gracious and beautiful touches to her fashion, her home, and her meals.
