| About | James L. Woods, Age 65, of Valparaiso, lost his battle with cancer on June 7, 2014 surrounded by his loving family at the VNA Hospice Center in Valparaiso. Jim was born in Madisonville, KY on May 24, 1949, the son of James E. and Katherine Woods. He was a graduate of Horace Mann High School, class of 1968, and proudly served his country in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. He retired from the steel industry, having worked as a millwright at the Burns Harbor Plant of Bethlehem Steel, ISG and ArcelorMittal for over 40 years. On June 16, 1989, Jim married Dianne Lind, creating their own version of the "Brady Bunch". He is survived by his wife, Dianne; six children, Beth Woods of Port St. Lucie, FL, Laura (Patrick) Harwood of Yulee, FL, James W. (Tasha) Woods of Valparaiso, Corrie (Dustin) Fox of Valparaiso, Alicia (Brad) Bennett of Indianapolis, and Kristi (Jose) Ramos of Crown Point; 15 grandchildren, Hallie, Tyler, Zac, Luke, Lily, Briella, Ruby, Brogen, Mason, Ashley, Gianna, Antonio, Kayla, Ozzy and Jada; brother-in-law, Richard Lind of Seattle, WA; nieces, Melissa (Keith) Rootkie and LeeAnn Spurlock of Valparaiso; dear friends, Romie and Annette Dybas of Chesterton and Sammy and Debbie Barnes of Macon, GA. Preceded in death by his parents, James and Katherine Woods; brother, Ronald Woods; sister, Phyllis Spurlock; brother-in-law, David Spurlock; and in-laws, Robert and Patricia Lind. Jim deeply loved his family and was a devoted husband, father and grandpa. Words cannot express how much he will be missed by those who loved him. |
