About	John N. Sabovcik, Sr., age 67 of Portage, passed away Monday, February 3, 2014. He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Dorothy Ann (nee Wozniak); three children: John N. Sabovcik, Jr. of Griffith, Diane Sabovcik Dube of Portage, and Jennifer (Jacob) Wood of Westville, IN; eight grandchildren: Kara Sabovcik, Ken Nolan, Jr., Julie, Kelly, John G. and Lily Dube, Jack and Joshua Wood; one great granddaughter, Noelle Leigh Nolan; sister, Rose Ann (Pascual) Marquez of Goshen, IN; numerous nieces, nephews, aunts, cousins, and friends, especially his “brother from another mother”, David “Red Head” (Suzanne) Hathaway of South Haven. Preceded in death by parents: John G. and Ann Sabovcik. Our loving husband, dad, Papa, brother, and uncle was taken too soon from his battle with cancer. Even on his worst day, he asked about others and how they were doing. He loved baseball, dancing, music, animals, and was the hardest working man you knew. Anyone who knew him was touched by his beautiful and loving personality. He was so funny and giving and we are all left with a void without him here. His eyes were as blue as the sky, and he loved watching clouds go by. He adored watching his grandkids play sports and excel in school. Friends knew him as “Polak”, “Sabo”, and “Cookie Man”. John was a member of Nativity of Our Savior Catholic Church, Portage. He was a graduate of Horace Mann High School, Class of 1964 and was an Army veteran. John was a retired fork lift operator from Ford Motor Co., Chicago Plant, and a former employee of U.S. Gypsum and Budd Company.
