About	Hass, Ronald Arthur 79, of Valparaiso, IN, passed away Wednesday, January 1, 2014 at home, after a 5 year battle with oral cancer. He was born May 2, 1934 in Gary, IN and graduated from Horace Mann High School. Ron was a Licensed Union Carpenter and Project Manager for various companies in the commercial construction industry. Bethlehem Steel, Gariup Construction and Eichleay Corporation were the companies he was with for a majority of those working years. His work with Eichleay took him from Merrillville, IN to Couer d' Alene, ID, Discovery Bay, CA, and Evansville, IN. He taught in the Carpenter Apprenticeship School, instructed Life Saving Swim Classes for the Red Cross, was a member of Gary's Masonic Lodge and the Hobart Boat and Ski Club. He spent hours at his work bench building and fixing the world around him. Any body of water pulled him like a magnet and he could be found floating, fishing, water skiing, or just sitting inside one of his many boats. Ron is survived by his wife of 20 years, Virginia C. Hass; daughters, Lynn (Dr. Steven Holm) of Valparaiso, IN and Ellen ( Dr. Andrew Speer) of Silver Spring, MD; granddaughters, Courtney (Michael Kozinski) of Valparaiso, IN, Tori Holm of Valparaiso, IN, Ashley Speer of Columbia, MD and great-grandson Mack Kozinski of Valparaiso, IN. Preceding him in death was his 1st wife, Carol F. Hass (nee Hartmann) and Nancy Hass (nee Crosek).
