About	Edward C. Herbert, age 95 of Valparaiso, formerly of Gary, passed away peacefully December 9, 2013. Edward was a member of the Gary Old Timers Club, “I” Man Association, Indiana Coaches Hall of Fame, and The Indiana University Varsity Club. Edward was a Big 10 official (20 years with football and 16 years with basketball). He was a member of the Hebron town board, Captain of Horace Mann State Champs in 1936, Football 3 year letterman, member of Chicago All State team in 1942, played for Chicago Bears and Philadelphia Eagles. Edward was preceded in death by his wives - Dorothy (Nee-Schraeder), Mary Horbovetz Herbert; daughter- Judy Herbert; sisters-Virginia Dawkins and Ethel Uebler. He is survived by sons – Thomas (Linda) Herbert, “Tim” Edward (Ronda) Herbert; stepsons- David, Rick (Yvonne), Paul (Robin), Peter (Reda) Horbovetz; grandchildren- David , Lisa (Sean) Kelleher, Jennifer, Erik Herbert, Michael, Adam, Arian, Aaron Horbovetz, Doug Holman; Many loving great grandchildren. Friends may visit with Edward’s family on Friday, December 13, 2013 from 1-4 pm at Burns Funeral Home, 10101 Broadway, Crown Point, IN with funeral service following at Burns at 4 pm with Pastor John Starr officiating.
