Aurelio Sanchez, age 64 of Portage, passed away Thursday, June 6, 2013.
He is survived by his wife, Kathleen, of 43 years; son, Patrick Sanchez of Chicago; daughter, Kaitlin Sanchez of Portage; eight siblings: Rosemary (Hector) Gomez, Barbara (Jose) Covarrubias, Teresa (late Juan) Gomez-Sanchez, Connie Villarruel, Michael (Margarita) Sanchez, John (Tina) Sanchez, Gloria (Charleston) Murphy, and Richard Leon; three grandchildren: Anastasia, Penelope, and Isabel; and many nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by parents: Lawrence and Adela Sanchez, Sr.; and brother, Lawrence Sanchez, Jr.
Mr. Sanchez was a member of St. Matthias Catholic Church and taught religious education there. He was a former member of Nativity of Our Savior Catholic Church and had also taught religious education there as well. Aurelio was a graduate of Horace Mann High School, served as a substitute teacher for the Porter County School System, coached soccer for the Portage Parks Department and Nativity School, and was a member and past-president of the Portage Jaycees.
