About	Manetta Manhart, age 80, of Crown Point, passed away on Sunday, January 13, 2013. Manetta was preceded in death by her parents: Paul and Viola (Gibbons) Manhart. She is survived by many cousins with the family names: Gibbons, Brown, Prust and Manhart. Manetta was a member of St. Matthias Catholic Church and a former member of the church choir as well as many other local choirs. She was a retired teacher in the Gary School System and was instrumental in educational programs for the mentally and physically handicapped children, as well as social chair-person for the local American Federation of Teachers and a member of the local National Council of Children where she was past president. Manetta was a graduate of Holy Angels Grade School, Horace Mann High School, Loretto Heights College and attended Loyola University. She was an avid doll collector and attended over 22 national conventions. Manetta was very philanthropic and wanted to give back to the community. She established The Manhart/Gibbons Family Endowment Fund with the Crown Point Community Foundation. Her endowment fund supports multiple scholarships for high school students pursuing an advanced education in the music arts, the Northwest Indiana Symphony and countless other community projects. Memorial donations may be given to the Crown Point Community Foundation to continue supporting Manetta's Endowment Fund recipients. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday, January 17, 2013 at 10:00 AM at St. Matthias Catholic Church, 101 W. Burrell Dr., Crown Point, IN with Fr. James Wozniak officiating. Interment will follow at Calumet Park Cemetery in Merrillville, IN.
